Welcome to my website!
I’m Fevronia Soumakis, a scholar dedicated to exploring the intersections of history, education, and culture. I hold a PhD in History and Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and have taught in a wide range of academic settings. My research spans topics such as the history of education, immigration, ethnicity, and the complex relationships between religion and education.
I am the co-editor of Educating Greek Americans: Historical Perspectives and Contemporary Pathways (Palgrave Macmillan, 2020). My work on Greek Americans has been featured in The Greek Revolution and the Greek Diaspora in the United States and Redirecting Ethnic Singularity: Italian Americans and Greek Americans in Conversation.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I serve as the Secretary of the Modern Greek Studies Association (2023-2026) and will begin my role as Associate Editor of the Journal of Modern Greek Studies in 2025. Currently, I am working on a project that examines the history of Greek American women, focusing on their roles in education and philanthropy throughout the twentieth century.
This website serves as a space to share my ongoing work, research projects, and academic interests. I invite you to explore and engage with the resources I’ve curated, and I look forward to connecting with others who share my interest in these critical areas of study. Stay tuned as there is more to come.
Thank you for visiting!
